Mambila Hydro-Power Project: Nothing Concrete On Ground To Show After 40 Years

The leader of a delegation Of representatives Of northeast Governors forum, Mijinyawa Yahaya, on Friday lamented the state of the Mambila Hydro-Power Project which was conceptualized 40 years ago, saying there is nothing on ground to show that the project is of huge benefit to the Nigerian economy.
He said this Friday in Abuja when the delegation visited the Director, General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, in his office in Abuja
In a statement today issued by the scheme and signed by Adenike Adeyemi Director, Press and Public Relations, NYSC, Mijinyawa Yahaya representing Gombe State stated, that “after forty years that the project was conceptualised, there is nothing concrete to show for it, hence the need for the committee to interface with stakeholders and come up with a report that would ensure a smooth take-off and timely completion of the project.”
He said corps members are strategic to the actualisation of the project when it comes to the area of manpower.
“NYSC is a strategic partner in the Mambila Hydro-Power Project and with regards to manpower, there is no other place to go than the NYSC”.
“Thirty percent of the funding will grow from local contents and we are here to strategise on areas of synergy to ensure that the project reaches a final conclusion”, he said.
Yahaya who commended the NYSC for its role in national unity and socio-economic development of the country added that there was the need for all stakeholders on the project to synergise.
Brig. Gen. Ibrahim assured on the readiness of Corps members to see to the actualisation of the project.
He said Corps members are full of potentials that can be tapped for national development, but requested that a conducive environment including adequate security and welfare be provided for them by members of the public.
He stated that the NYSC mobilises more than 350,000 Corps members annually to foster unity and enhance national development.
“The human capacity of our Corps members are enormous. We are determined as a proactive Scheme, and l can assure you that our Corps members are very available.”, He stated.
The group, is a fact-finding committee constituted by Governors of the six states in the North-East,
Other Members of the delegation include; Engr. Stephen Abubakar – Bauchi State, Engr. Bukar Buni – Yobe State, Engr. Ibrahim Njidda – Borno State, Mr John T. Yarafa – Taraba State, Barr. Babayola Toungo – Adamawa State and the MD, Hypertech, Mustapha Muhammed.
