Abia Angels’ management refutes viral online photo
The management of Abia Angels Fc has refuted the viral photograph trending online of its players seen on the roof of a bus.
Mr. Rolandson Gbaruko said they recieved the news with a suprise, and that the persons on the photograph were that of a grassroot team who attended a burial cermony and that the vehicle is a commercial vehicle, the club hires to help take them to match venues.
“I’ve seen the pictures that have gone viral on the internet, the truth is that, its not been easy for us as a club, we have complained to the authorities concerned of how difficult it is for us to prosecute our games in the league, most times we don’t get the subventions from the government early.
Our team bus has been grounded for a while now, this has made it difficult for us to arrive to match venues early.
“For these reasons, we’ve been hiring buses for our games, and we had an agreement with the owner of the bus for us to place the sticker with the name of the club on the bus, for proper identification so as not to be harassed on the road, while going for our league games.
“On the said date, there was a burial ceremony that was being held, and the bus driver was contracted to take people to the burial cermony, so it wasnt our players that were on top of the roof of the bus, we are seriously perturbed by the news flying everywere that those seen on the bus are our players, despite the difficulties we are passing through as a club, we cannot behave in such a manner”.
Mr. Gbaruko also called on the Abia State government to look into the plights of the club, especially in the area of the players welfare package.
Recall that Abia Angels Fc was first known as “Standard Babes Fc”, while in the Amateaur division, and was later renamed “Abia Angels Fc after it gained promotion to the top flight division, and was taken over by the Abia State Government.
It is also been looked after by the office of the wife of the governor, who decided to assist the Club.
