Akpabio Pays Condolence Visit To Governor Umo Eno Over Wife’s Death.
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswll Akpabio on Friday paid a condolence visit to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo in Uyo, over the recent death of his wife, Mrs Patience Umo Eno.
Senator Akpabio who was accompanied by Senators Aniekan Bassey and Ekong Sampson and members of the National Assembly from Akwa Ibom State said he was greatly saddened by the news of the demise of the late First Lady whom he said will be greatly missed by Akwa Ibom people for her kind and peaceful disposition.
A statement by the Special Assistant on Media and Communication to the President of the Senate, Anietie Ekong quoted Senator Akpabio as admonishing Governor Eno to be consoled by the legacies that the late First Lady left behind and the many lives she touched through her philanthropic gestures.
Addressing Governor Eno, Senator Akpabio said, “This is an uncommon event, the loss of your spouse, your backbone, the mother of your children, the grandmother of your grandchildren, the Mother of Akwa Ibom State, a major pillar in your life, I call her Madam Stability. May her soul Rest In Peace.
“My visit is to let you know that we are all with you. We mourn with you. Nobody can console you on this painful loss. It is the Almighty God alone who can bring succour to you and your family and we pray that He will console you, your family and Akwa Ibom State,” he said.
Senator Akpabio praised Governor Eno for pledging to keep the memories of his late wife alive by mandating his daughter to continue with the pet project of the late First Lady, The Golden Initiative for All.
Responding Governor Eno said even though he was mourning he would not fail to congratulate Senator Akpabio on his recent conferment of the National Honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) and thanked President Bola Tinubu for the gesture.
Pastor Eno recalled that he had married his late wife for 38 years and he will sorely miss her and all she stood for. “But let me assure you that we will continue with her pet project as well as all other initiatives she had started,” he said.
The Governor used the opportunity to thank Akwa Ibom people and the whole Nigeria for their show of love through prayers and calls and for standing by him and his family in this moment of grief. “I feel touched by the solidarity of the State across party lines,” he said.
High point of the condolence visit was prayer by Pastor Effiong Akwa for the repose of the soul of the Late First Lady.
