FG Moves To End University Crises! Sets Up New Committee To Address 2009 Agreement

The Honourable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has inaugurated a renegotiation committee to address the long-standing 2009 agreement between the Federal Government and university-based unions.
According to the Minister, ” This is a new dawn for education in Nigeria because Education is central to our national development.”

The newly constituted committee, chaired by Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, aims to resolve outstanding issues and conclude negotiations that began in 2009 within the next three months.

Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, Chairman Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities, CPCNFU, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in the renegotiation process. “We need support from relevant ministries to secure necessary funding,” he added.

However the University-based unions have welcomed the new committee. Professor Emmanuel Osodeke expressed hope for a stable academic calendar. “We are ready for renegotiation and eager to work with the government,” he said.
