Nigerian Army Inaugurates Master Warrant Officers To Army Warrant Officers Promotion Board 2024

The Nigerian Army (NA) has called on its personnel to maintain discipline and commitment in the execution of their duties. This message was delivered by the Chief of Personnel Management (CPM) Army (A) Major General Yakubu Yahaya, during the inauguration of the NA Master Warrant Officers (MWOs) to Army Warrant Officers (AWOs) Promotion Board for 2024.

The ceremony took place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Rhino Sports Pavilion, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos. Major General Yahaya highlighted the annual promotion exercise as a vital event for the NA, where MWOs from various formations and units are evaluated for promotion to the esteemed rank of AWO. He underscored that only the most qualified and dedicated candidates would advance, following a comprehensive assessment process that includes drills, weapon proficiency, knowledge of current affairs, general military expertise, oral interviews, as well as physical and medical evaluations.

Expressing his gratitude to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, for providing exceptional facilities that would ensure a smooth and comfortable process for the candidates over the two-week duration, the CPM (A), reassured participants that the promotion board would uphold the principles of fairness, impartiality, and transparency throughout the exercise.

In his welcome remarks, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar emphasized the critical role of capable personnel in leading the Nigerian Army’s efforts to tackle the complex security challenges facing the nation. He pointed out that the promotion exercise serves as a crucial platform for identifying top leaders among the non-commissioned officers. He encouraged the candidates to exhibit professionalism, discipline, resilience, and to leverage their experience throughout the process.

The GOC also extended his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja, for selecting the 3 Division NA to host the promotion exercise. Additionally, he expressed confidence that the board members would integrate modern technology and best global military practices into their evaluations.

Brigadier General Jamiu Are, President of the Promotion Board, emphasized that the rank of AWO is the pinnacle of achievement for soldiers and is reserved for only the most deserving individuals. He expressed his gratitude to the COAS for the trust placed in him to lead the promotion board. Brig Gen Are assured that the board members would uphold their duty to ensure that only the most capable and qualified candidates are selected for promotion.
