The Lagos State School Chess Championship, powered by NNPC-SNEPCo in partnership with Chess in Slums Africa (CiSA), led by founder Tunde Onakoya, took place recently. The event brought together 30 teams from secondary schools across Lagos and participants from the Chess in Slums initiative.
The competition featured five intense rounds, with the teams accumulating the highest points emerging as winners:
1st Place – Platform Schools
2nd Place – Shasha Community Junior & Senior Secondary Schools
3rd Place (Tie) – Abiolu Schools and Impetus Dominion Academy
Special Prizes
Best Performing Male: Luke Miracle (Shasha Community High School)
Best Performing Female: Ogbonna Confidence (Chess in Slums Africa)
For champions from underserved communities, this championship was a platform to showcase their skills and resilience. For school participants, it was an opportunity to learn from peers who have overcome significant challenges, highlighting that brilliance and determination know no boundaries.
