Budget Is Everybody’s Responsibility Not The National Assembly Alone – Akpabio

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio has urged the general public to make meaningful contributions to the 2025 budget proposals to reflect the true aspirations of Nigerians instead of just sitting by to criticize the budget.

Senator Akpabio made the call at the stekeholders public hearings/interactive session on the 2025 appropriation bill organized by the Senate Committee on Appropriation at the National Assembly.

Speaking on the theme: “Forging a future of peace and prosperity: a call to action for the 2025 budget of restoration” Senator Akpabio said the public hearing was not just a mere formality but a forum to shape the future and invited critics of the budget to make their inputs into the budget through the forum

A statement by the Special Assistant to the President of the Senate on Media/Communication Anietie Ekong quoted Senator Akpabio as saying, “This budget, “Budget of Restoration,” is a beacon of hope—a strategic instrument to secure peace, ignite prosperity, and lay the cornerstone of a stronger, more resilient Nigeria.

“By coming together—government, private sector, and citizens— we can go far in crafting a budget that not only meets immediate needs but also builds a resilient and inclusive economy for generations to come.

“It demonstrates that governance is not a solitary endeavor but a collaborative mission. Let us, therefore, deliberate, in order to craft a budget that embodies the aspirations, struggles, and dreams of our people—a budget that restores faith, renews hope, rebuilds trust, and rekindles the promise of a brighter tomorrow,” he said.

According to Senator Akpabio the stakeholders must ensure that the 2025 budget is not a mere ledger of revenue and expenditures but a living document that prioritizes the welfare of every Nigerian.

The Senate President pledged that the National Assembly would ensure that they deliver a budget that reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people saying, “We shall uphold the sacred principles of accountability, ensuring that every naira spent is a naira well invested in the prosperity of our people.

“This budget is our collective responsibility. Its success depends not only on those in government but on every Nigerian—on our shared determination to demand transparency, embrace accountability, and ensure its faithful implementation.

“Together, through dialogue, cooperation, and unwavering resolve, we can transform this budget into a tool of restoration, a vehicle of transformation, and a symbol of our collective triumph over adversity,” he said.

The public hearing was attended by members of the National Assembly, Honourable Ministers, Academics, Public Servants, members of the private sector and other stakeholders.
