Governor Monday Okpebholo’s 100 Days in Office: Highlights of the Office of the First Lady’s Impacts.

As Edo State marks Governor Monday Okpebholo’s 100 days in office, it is essential to highlight the significant contributions of the Office of the First Lady, led by the Coordinator, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani.
Mrs. Anani has been instrumental in promoting the welfare of women, youths, and children in Edo State, achieving notable milestones and making tangible impacts across the State.

In line with the words of Hillary Clinton, “Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world,” Mrs. Anani’s core objectives focus on emancipating women from gender-based violence, empowering them to reach their full potential, and partnering with local and international organizations to promote women’s causes.

Since assuming her role as Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Anani has worked tirelessly to promote women and girls’ empowerment. Her collaborative efforts with associations such as the Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa, Heifer Nigeria and a host of others have supported women’s empowerment initiatives.

Mrs. Anani is also a strong advocate for women’s rights, creating opportunities for women to participate in the economy and politics. Her work resonates with Kofi Annan’s statement, “The protection of women’s rights is essential to the development of any society.” Similarly, Michelle Obama’s words, “No country can truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and girls,” reflect Mrs. Anani’s commitment to empowering women and girls.

Her initiatives have improved healthcare services for women and children as well as her collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Health, Edo Specialist Hospital, which has provided free cancer screening and sensitization for women residents in the State. She has recently secured a partnership with the Yongxing Steel Company in donations of free medical materials.

Mrs. Anani has also partnered with the Medical Women Association of Nigeria and other healthcare providers amongst others and her efforts have helped to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.

She is also focused on promoting girls’ education. To achieve this, she has worked closely with the State Government and private organizations, forging collaborations to enhance learning and facilitate conducive learning environments. For example, her partnership bid with Miss. Daniella Oshawo, Winner of the Beauty pageant International, 2025, from the Twinsporium Entertainment Agency, to donate furniture to underdeveloped schools in Edo State.

Furthermore, Mrs. Anani’s efforts have increased women’s participation in the economy, raising awareness about women’s economic empowerment. Kofi Annan’s statement, “The empowerment of women is not just a matter of social justice, but a matter of economic development and human security,” resonates with Mrs. Anani’s work.

Mrs. Anani’s impact on women and children in Edo State has been significant. As Michelle Obama noted, “Women are the backbone of our societies. We are the caregivers, the nurturers, and the sustainers of life.” Mrs. Anani’s work embodies this spirit, demonstrating her dedication to creating a better future for all.

Notably, Mrs. Anani played a crucial role in rehabilitating the 12 years old Okpella girl who was a victim of gang rape. She also collaborated with the Edo State Government in providing financial aid to Uyi Tina, who was set ablaze by her estranged husband.

Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani has made a profound impact on women and children in Edo State. Her commitment to promoting girls’ education, improving healthcare services, and advocating for women’s economic empowerment has been evident in everything she does. As Governor Okpebholo’s administration continues to promote the welfare of women and children, Mrs. Anani’s leadership and advocacy will be essential in creating a brighter future for all.

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s words, “The future of Africa is in the hands of its women,” aligns with Mrs. Anani’s works, which will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on Edo State’s future.
