Plot To Install Interim Govt Is Criminal, Unconstitutional, Punishable By Death – Bulama Bukarti

Nigerians from all walks of life have been raising their voices against the recent revelation by the Department of State Security Services about some politicians ploting to install an Interim government to succeed president Muhammadu Buhari on May 29.

The secret police made the disclosure on Wednesday evening, saying the agency will do everything within its disposal to thwart the plan and ensure those who are behind it are brought to book.

Speaking against the plan was Bulama Bukarti, a lawyer and Scholar on Violent Extremism.

Bukarti, while featuring on the Wednesday edition of Channels TV Politics Today described the plot as a criminal move.

He said: “Any plot to install an Interim government is criminal, unconstitutional and punishable by death.”

According to him, the Nigerian constitution has spelt it out the details on how Nigeria can be governed and someone entitled to govern the country.

It must be somebody who contested an election, won election and satisfied the constitutional provision of two third majority that can be sworn-in for a single term of four years.

Anything outside this is a criminal exercise and it is punishable by death.

Bukarti ruled described the plot as an exercise in futility.
