We allowed Hijab wearing for the good of all says Gov Abdulrazaq

Kwara State Governor Abdulraman Abdulrasaq, has clarified that the decision to allow the wearing of Hijab (veil) in grant-aided mission schools in the state was based on good faith and the interest of all and not for any religious or personal reasons as perceived by detractors.

That governor who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye in a statement on Tuesday in Ilorin, Kwara State said that the decision taken after extensive meetings and consultations with concerned interest groups.

Abdulrasaq, explained that he will take the necessary steps to address the concerns of the Christians and Muslims in a manner that will promote understanding, selflessness, mutual co-existence and peace.

“I acknowledge the apprehension from the Christian and Muslim communities. Having held dozens of meetings with thought leaders from both sides in the last four weeks, I am convinced that beneath the tensions and misgivings around the hijab decision are old wounds that must be healed.

“I assure Kwarans that we will take steps to address the concerns raised by faith communities but in doing so, a huge dose of understanding, selflessness and patriotism will be required. Going forward, we will need leaders from both sides to spread message of love, accommodation, patience, peace and mutual respect,” he said.

The governor commended religious leaders in the state for their mature conduct and promised that his decisions will always be guarded by the principles of fairness and justice.

He also commended security agents for rising to the challenge and stemming the tide of violence which helped in keeping the crisis merchants in check and warned parents and guardians to counsel their children and wards against following the part that leads to destruction.
