Rivers State Police Commission Says “No” To Crime

The Rivers state government has read the riot act to criminals and criminal elements in the state with the introduction of its Zero Crime Initiative.

And as part of efforts to ensure collaboration among various stakeholders in achieving its tall objective, the government has called on all residents of the state to join in the fight against crime, stating that it is a collective effort.


The state governor, Siminalayi Fubara stated this during a press conference held in the police headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, south south Nigeria.

Governor Fubara, who was represented by his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu made this known during the press conference on Rivers Zero Crime Initiative, said they are energising the police in crime fighting.

“We are synergizing with the police to ensure that Rivers State is peaceful, loving and calm to everyone who comes here to do business. I want to plead with all of us that this is not a thing we should leave for the police or religious leaders alone. I want to tell us that all of us must play a role, it is time for everybody to participate.”

While commending the state commissioner of police, CP Emeka Polycap Nwonyi and his team for initiating the Rivers Zero Crime Campaign she said the initiative was the first of its kind, while appreciating sponsors for the synergy in ensuring a peaceful Rivers state, that is aimed at fostering development.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Emeka Polycarp Nwonyi, commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, for the continuous support to the State Police Command in ensuring that the state remains crime free,. He stated that the Zero Crime Initiative is born out of the need to fight crime effectively, and promote the positive union between the police and the citizens of the state, In ensuring proactive and intelligence driven policing so as to improve economic development of the state.

The Police boss however assured the government that they have mapped out areas in the state and have begun security clocks in all selected areas as part of active steps taken in the fight against crime.
