Since 1960, There Is No Election In Nigeria That Hasn’t Been Disputed By Losers- Festus Keyamo

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo who also doubles as the chief spokesman of the All Progressive Congress Presidential Campaign Council has given an insight into the spate of court cases that trailed elections in Nigeria.

Keyamo’s statement is coming amidst the controversies that have trailed the conduct of the just concluded presidential election that produced his principal, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as winner.

Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos was declared president-elect inspite of calls and protests by well-meaning Nigerians for INEC to suspend the announcement of results till all polling unit results are uploaded on the INEC Results Viewing portal, IREV.

The move by the electoral body has prompted other aggrieved presidential candidates to file lawsuits against the Independent National Electoral Commission and the ruling party.

The candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party both claimed that the election was rigged and their actual results in some polling units were manipulated at the collation centres.

Commenting on the development through his verified twitter handle on Friday, the legal luminary said” Since 1960, there is no election in Nigeria that hasn’t been disputed by losers.”

He wrote on twitter: “Since 1960, there hasn’t been a SINGLE election in Nigeria that has not been disputed by the losers. We’ve been down this road before, but we are wiser now: unlike before, the nation will no longer allow the losers to destroy the entire edifice of democracy just because they lost,” he wrote.
