Lagos Warns Against Uncoordinated Physical Development Along Alignments

– Orders Suspension of Developments in Shapatta.

The Lagos State Government has issued a strong warning against uncoordinated physical developments along the alignments of the ongoing Regional Road, particularly Shapatta, near the Victoria Garden City, where it ordered immediate suspension of developments.

During a routine monitoring visit earlier in the week, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako noted with dismay the alarming rate of illegal and haphazard development going on along Harrison Drive, Shapatta behind VGC, Lekki.

He expressed concern that the inordinate ambition of developers, who had continued to take undue advantage of the Regional Road project by building indiscriminately along the axis, was capable of causing blightedness from the onset.

He reiterated that the Urban and Regional Planning and Development law 2019 (as amended) was very much in force as no illegal building construction would be allowed in the State.

According to a press release signed by Mr. Mukaila Sanusi, Deputy Director of Public Affairs in the Ministry, the Commissioner gave all unapproved developments in the area14 days to regularise with the Ministry and subsequently issued a suspension order on fresh developments in the area.

He urged prompt compliance with the State Government’s directive, warning that government would henceforth not hesitate to remove any uncomplying developments.
