Peter Obi Supporter Threatens To Disown Him For Dissociating Self From Picture On Praying Mat

The presidential candidate of Labour Party, Dr Peter Obi has reacted to the viral picture of a Muslim Praying Mat that carries his campaign picture.

Some of Obi’s supporters were said to have made the souvenir as a way of preaching his gospel and gain more political grounds and popularity ahead of 2023 general election. It was said to have been done in good faith by the support group.

Unfortunately, the move backfired with a whirlwind of reactions among Nigerians. As a matter of fact, the matter was viewed with the lens of religion as Muslims faithfuls believe that it was an attempt to denigrate their faith.

The twitter became tense within a space of 24 hours that the picture went viral.

Considering the sensitivity of the situation, the Labour Party Presidential candidate took to his Twitter handle to tender an unreserved apologies.

Peter Obi said those who came up with the idea were misguided as it was not aimed to rubbish any religion. He said Nigerians are one united family and there is no room for such division in the name of religion.

However, his response did not seem to go down well with some of his supporters. They were of the opinion that he has no reason to apologize as the whole thing was done with a good intention.

Some of his supporters however insist he should withdraw his apologies or lose their supports base.

In a twitter message made in response to Obi’s tweet, the supporter with the name, Usman Lade tweeted that Peter Obi does not have the right to disclaim the gesture. He said he should either delete the tweet or they will withdrawal their supports from him.
