Updated: Soldiers celebrate the appointment of Major General Yahaya as Chief of Army Staff

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff to fill the void created by the death of the former Army Chief, late Ibrahim Attahiru who was killed alongside ten other officers in an air crash involving NAF Beechcraft Air King 350 airplane six days ago at the Kaduna International Airport.

The announcement of the appointment of General Yahaya, (55years) a member of 37 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defense Academy Kaduna, was made on Thursday via a statement by the Nigeria Defence Headquarters.

Until his latest appointment, Major General Farouk was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division of the Nigeria Army and the Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism military outfit in the North East named Operation HADIN KAI.
