Xenophobia: Tiwa Savage snubs DStv Festival in South Africa as Genevieve condemns killings

Following the recent xenophobic attacks on some Nigerians living in South Africa, popular female music artist, Tiwa Savage has turned down a musical performance at the upcoming DStv delicious Festival holding in Johannesburg on 21st September.

The music icon made this known on her twitter handle while praying for the victims and families affected by the attacks. “I refuse to watch the barbaric butchering of my people in SA. I will not perform at the upcoming DStv delicious Festival in Johannesburg,” she vowed.

Tiwa however pointed that she is not in support of drug dealing or in killing, but said the solution to drug crime is not killing.

The Nigerian music star said despite the attacks on her Nigerian brothers, she was booked to perform at the Festival. She said, “This is serious issue where no one wins when blood is shed.”

In a related development popular screen goddess Genevieve Nnaji also condemned the attacks in a recent tweet. She said: “it’s time to show the South Africans who we are but most importantly, it’s time we believed in ourselves.”

She added that, “A life with us isn’t the worse thing. They need to see one without us. They’ve shown us countless times who they are. Let’s believe them. “It’s time to show them who we are. But most importantly, it’s time we believed in ourselves.
