Following the widely reported fatal armed robbery in
Offa, a local government town in Kwara state last year, a man has
alleged threats to his life by a chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party PDP.
A Mr Jide Rasheed Balogun has appealed to the PDP Chairman of Kwara state, Engineer Kola Shittu to desist from harassing, intimidating,
threatening or blackmailing him in order for him to hands-off in his
quest for justice for the over 35 lives lost in the bank robbery that
took place in the town last year April.
In a statement made available on several platforms, Mr. Jide said he
started receiving threat to his life when he comment on a social media
post aimed at improving the image of former Senate president Bukola
Saraki by one of his supporters. He said, “Muyideen Balogun a.k.a
atomic was tagged with a photograph of Bukola Saraki holding an award
with a caption ‘some people are always happy any time they see this
man, if you are one of them, let’s see you, me: I dey’.
According to Jide, his response has been the reason for the alleged
various stalking and threats he has been receiving. He said, “I
responded thus: If you are one of those directly or indirectly
affected by the robbery, you won’t be tagged with such post, all free
born compatriots of this state, know who has been our tormentors,
shine your eyes!”
He said after he made the above comment on the post, the PDP Chairman had sent him a friend request which he (Jide) did not honour and that since then, the Chairman has been stalking him.
Mr. Jide said he has however made an official report to the concerned
law enforcement agents and that, he would like the world to know how
his move to demand for justice has been giving some people sleepless
nights. He also swore not to relent in his effort as justice for one
is justice for all.
He said, “I’m though retired from active journalism, I will not be
tired in demanding for justice for the innocent souls. One don’t have
to be affected directly by the dastardly act before he realizes the
pain of such unexpected loss.”
All effort to reach Engineer Kola Shittu however proved abortive as he
neither pick his call, nor respond to a text message sent to him
concerning the allegation.#
