Graphic Video: Gunshots, Mayhem Rock Alaba Market As Thugs, Traders Clash

There is palpable tension in Lagos following a clash between Traders and Thugs at the Popular Alaba Market on Wednesday morning.

It was gathered that the fight broke out after Traders reportedly opposed some members of the Market union over ‘illegal’ tax collection.

According to an eyewitness, several traders were mobilized and rejected the attempt by the union members to ‘extort’ them.

This resulted in fracas between the two aggrieved sides with sounds of gunshots ricocheting across the area.

As the situation got out of control, a detachment of policemen mobilised to the scene beat a hurried tactical retreat and fled the scene.

Later, another team of security officers consisting of soldiers and NSCDC were called in to contain the situation.

As at the time of filing this report, normalcy is yet to be fully restored to the area as major shops, banks, offices and other businesses sighted by RovingNaija remained shut.
