The House of Representatives Committee on Agricultural Institutions and Extension Services has commended the quality of projects executed in Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State.
The committee gave the pass mark during an oversight tour of projects facilitated by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila through the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute over the weekend.
The team led by the Chairman of the committee, Rep. Munir Babba Danagundi, was first received at the Surulere Local Government Council Secretariat before proceeding to inspect the projects.
Those on hand to receive the lawmakers were the Chairman of the council, Hon. Bamidele Suleiman Yusuf, members of the executive council, councillors and community leaders.
The officials of NSPRI, led by Mr. Agboola Ayodeji, were also on ground to lead the committee members on the inspection tour.
The projects the committee inspected were the Sam Shonibare Sports Center and the newly constructed Ishola road by Randle in Surulere.
The committee was also briefed on the fertilizers and other farm inputs Gbajabiamila provided through the NSPRI to farmers at Tejuosho vegetable farmland.
Speaking after the tour, Rep. Danagundi expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done by the agency in line with specifications in the Bill of Quantities and the design stipulated for the project.
He said, “Our assignment is to oversight jobs done by agencies of government to ensure Nigerians get value for money. In the wisdom of the 9th House of Representatives, we have been challenged to work hard.
I think this is the first time we have insisted to inspect all projects appropriated across the country, whether sponsored by a Senator, Rep member or any other person, like we have been going round to see all projects that concern our constituencies.
“Some people will wonder, why should the committee be going round? It is because the 9th Assembly under our Speaker is very transparent and accountable to Nigerians.
“We pray that the facilities will be maintained and hope the agency will continue to do the right thing .
“From this physical inspection and testimonies from the community members, we are satisfied with the quality of the projects. We also commend the agency, NSPRI, for implementing the budget correctly.
“In his remarks, the Surulere council boss, Hon. Bamidele Yusuf, on behalf of the electorate in the federal constituency, thanked Gbajabiamila for always attracting people-oriented projects to the Local Government.
