PDP Chieftain Reveals The Dangers Ayu Posses On The Party If He Remains As Party Chairman

What Could Happen To The Party If Ayu Continues To Stay As Chairman

The call for resignation of the National Chairman of People’s Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu has been a major topic of debate within the opposition party as observers believe that if the matter is not handled well, it may bring down the party even before 2023 election.

Since the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as presidential candidate of the party and the selection of Ifeanyi Okowa as vice presidential candidate ahead of Nyesom Wike, peace has literally departed from the PDP.

Wike has been at the centre of attention threatening to rock rhye boat of the party before 2023. Part of the conditions given to Atiku and the party if he must throw his weight behind his (Atiku’s) Candidacy is for Iyorchia Ayu to step down and allow a southern person to take over as chairman of the party.

According to Wike, all the leadership positions cannot be occupied by the Northerners. He wants the southerners to be duly represented at every sensitive position.

However, the Chieftain of the party, Katch Ononuju noted that the former vice president has supported the call by Wike and other party leaders for Ayu to resign but there are hawks within the party who are telling him not to resign.

Ononuju made this known while featuring on the Thursday edition of Channels TV Sunrise Daily where he spoke on varieties of issues affecting the party.

According to Ononuju, Ayu’s continuous stay as chairman is dangerous to the existence of the party. The party may divide if he stays. It may lose election, if he stays and the party may explode if he continually staying.

Ononuju disclosed that Atiku actually wants Ayu to resign so that he can have a peaceful party that will go into 2023 election and win.

His word: “From my own insider information, the candidate wants Mr Ayu to resign but there are hawks in the party who are telling them, ‘Ayu, don’t resign’. I don’t know why. The candidate wants Mr Ayu to leave so that he could have a peaceful party to go to the election.

“If Atiku keeps saying he is a unifier, let him now unify the party by taking decisions and also acting to aid the southerners in this issue of inclusion,” he added.

He said Ayu is the reason for the current internal implosion of the party. “If he (Ayu) stays, he divides the party; if he stays, the party could lose. If he stays, the party implodes with the staying put.”
