Kaduna Senator Predicts Re-Run Election In 2023 If …
There may not be a winner in the first round of presidential election in 2023 if the prediction of Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi is anything to go by.
Hunkuyi, who represents Kaduna West in the upper legislative assembly, made this statement while speaking to newsmen in Kaduna on Wednesday.
The Senator who is also the gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigerian People’s Party in Kaduna State revealed that with the way things are going in Nigeria, there is no any political party that can be underestimated including the NNPP.
He said every presidential candidate jostling for 2023 election is strong and if the election is eventually conducted under a free, fair and credible atmosphere, there may not likely be a winner in the first round of the poll.
The Senator disclosed that the presidential candidates are bringing religous and ethnic coloration to their permutation and securing 25 percent vote in 25 states by any of the candidates may be very difficult in the first ballot.
According to him, it does not appear any party today in Nigeria, including NNPP, may make it in the first election.
He said: “I feel no one party, no one candidate, may be able to make it and that is why the laws of elections permits for a re-run.”
He is of the view that it would be difficult for any political party to claim victory in the 36 states in the country, saying that to win election, the candidate needs 25 per cent of votes in minimum of 25 states.
He stressed that “Nigeria is too big a polity, it is a big pot, when boiling, you can never say, you can never tell, the polity is erratic.”
“From where is APC and PDP going to gather what you are talking about? Count, look around. If you are talking about what the polity used to be before, it was just two parties, APC and PDP.” Hunkuyi said.
