As Far As Rivers State Is Concerned, PDP Can’t Do Without Me If It Wants To Win Election- Gov. Wike

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has dropped another controversial statement that has become a social media discuss for political observers especially those who follow the unfolding events in the People’s Democratic Party recently.

The governor, who has been in the eye of the storm in the party has just stated that PDP cannot win elections in Rivers State without him. Wike made this statement while addressing the media in Port Harcourt on Friday.

The development is coming on the heels of calls for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu to resign from his position.

Ayu has insisted he would not resign because he is yet to complete his tenure. The presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar whom Wike expected to prevail on Ayu to resign has disclosed that he has no power to remove the chairman.

While chatting with the Press on Friday, Wike revealed that they may not want him in the party but it is not possible for them to amass substantial votes in Rivers state without him. They need him to win election from the State that has been dominated by PDP for many years.

He revealed that sacrifices and compromises must be made for PDP to win 2023 election.

“You can do without me I agree, but to say you will do without me in this state (Rivers), it will not be possible.

“it is sad the individuals who are pulling the strings of discord in the PDP are those who rarely bring anything to the table.

“The bride which threatens the peace of the party at the moment, might be its doom when Nigerians head back to the polls.

“We have not won election we are too arrogant, we have not won election and we are telling Nigerians, look you cannot trust us, we say one thing and we do a different thing,” Wike asserted.

Speaking further on the issue threatening the peace within PDP, Wike said it is sad that no southerner occupies any of the three top positions within the party.

He added that the seed of discord was planted when the PDP shunned the zoning formula which would have seen a Southern candidate emerge as presidential flagbearer.
