I have Accepted My Fate- Ahmed Lawan Reacts To Court Judgement That Ruled Him Out From Yobe Senatorial Election
Ahmed Lawan, the president of the Senate has reacted to the court judgment that ruled him out from contesting the Yobe North Senatorial election in 2023.
Lawan, who was a presidential aspirant of the All Progressive Congress in the June primary election of the ruling party, was said to have contested Yobe North Senatorial primary election by proxy.
He reportedly struck a deal with Bashir Machina to stand in as a placeholder during the primary election. It was agreed that Machina would step down for the Senate president if he couldn’t clinch the APC presidential ticket.
However, Lawan lost the ticket to Bola Tinubu and when he needed to pick the Yobe Senatorial ticket already clinched by Machina, the placeholder refused to step down and Lawan headed to court.
The Senate President however knew his fate on Wednesday after the federal high court sitting in Damaturu ruled that he has been disqualified from participating in the forthcoming Yobe North Senatorial election.
Many supporters of the embattled senator who believed that the judgement was unfair to him advised him to appeal the judgement.
Reacting to the development, Ahmed Lawan said he has accepted the disqualification of his candidature from participating in the senatorial election.
The Senate president made this known in a statement signed by him on Thursday.
The statement reads:
“After due consultations with my political associates, supporters and well-wishers, I have decided not to appeal against the judgement. I accept the judgement.
“At this juncture, I deem it appropriate to thank His Excellency, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam for the leadership role in the APC political family in Yobe State. I also thank His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni for the support and brotherhood.
“To my constituents, I thank you all for your unflinching support, loyalty and unreserved commitment to the course of building our people and Yobe North Senatorial District and indeed Yobe State”.
The lawmaker assured his constituents that he will continue to serve them both personally and in any other capacity at all times.
“We journeyed together for a long time, and this journey will remain a life long journey. It has been a wonderful relationship and it can only get stronger. I am indebted to you all. Alhamdulillah,” the lawmaker stated.
