Following the murder of a police sergeant in cross river state, the police in Calabar have begun a manhunt for the gunmen who killed Sergeant Peter Ikwen, on Saturday morning.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo who confirmed the incident to newsmen declared that “the Commissioner of Police has ordered a manhunt for the assailants who escaped with his rifle after killing him.” but as of the time of this report, no arrest has been made.
Until Ikwen’s death, the sergeant was attached to Atakpa Police Division and deployed to guard the palace of the Obong of Calabar. He was said to have stepped out of the palace to ease himself at Egerton street when the gunmen accosted him, shot and killed him after which they escaped with his gun.
