The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 54-year old man, Ojo Joseph for setting ablaze five of his step children at Fagun crescent area of Ondo town in Ondo State.
The man was alleged to have committed the crime following a minor misunderstanding with his wife who is the mother of the children.
It was gathered that the suspect sprinkled petrol into the room while the children were asleep and set them on fire. One of them was reportedly burnt to death.
Four other victims are currently receiving treatment at Federal Medical Centre, Owo while their mother and 18-month old twins escaped from the inferno with minor injury.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Funmi Odunlami disclossed that the suspect had been apprehended by the police and he is being charged for a case of arson and murder.
The PPRO said further investigation would be carried out before charging him to court.
