UPDATE: One Person Confirmed Dead After Yoruba Nation Agitators Clashed With Police In Ojota

Following the protest that rocked the Ojota area of Lagos on Monday, one person has been confirmed dead.

The yet to be identified victim was said to have been caught in the bloody clash between the two aggrieved parties on Monday morning.

The development was confirmed by spokesperson for the police command in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin who said operatives of the Command had been deployed to the scene.

The situation led to tension as motorists and commuters ran to safety in the heat of the pandemonium which engulfed the entire area. It was also revealed that a police van was burnt during the protest.

According to report on Channels TV,  some agitators came out to demand Yoruba Nation amongst others and the police came out to curtail them, leading to a clash.

A confirmed police source hinted that shortly after the agitators took to the streets, the men of the Lagos State Police Command came out in procession with a detachment of personnel from Rapid Response Squad, State Taskforce and conventional divisional officers.

Over 200 agitators reportedly came out on Monday but the police arrested five of them.

The agitators were alleged to have shot pump action guns which hit a Superintendent of Police, Akinwunmi Oke.
