VIDEO: Despite Dusk-To-Dawn Curfew, Kano Erupts In Jubilation Over NNPP Guber Candidate’s Victory
Kano State has erupted in jubilation following the declaration of the candidate of the New Nigerian People’s Party, Abba Kabir Yusuf as winner of the Saturday governorship election in the state.
Abba Kabir defeated the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Yusuf Gawuna who is the incumbent deputy governor of the state.
The NNPP candidate was announced by the state Returning Officer, Ahmad Dokko Ibrahim after polling 1,019,602 votes to defeat the deputy governor, Gawuna who got 890,705 votes.
During the collation and announcement of results, the state reportedly became a hotbed of violence as supporters of the two rival candidates clashed with each other.
Before it could degenerate into an unmanageable crisis, the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje declared a dusk to dawn curfew to prevent the break down of law and order.
However, immediately the winner was announced by the returning officers, supporters of Abba Kabir returned to the streets with a whirlwind of jubilation.
They did not bother to wait for the state government to lift the curfew before igniting the fire of street celebration.
According to the video posted on twitter by Channels TV, the Youths were armed with sticks running around the street while commercial motorcyclists embarked on stunt riding.
