Was It Not In The Same Election Oyo People Peacefully Re-elected Their Gov?- Ezekwesili Asks

Apparently dissatisfied with the way things panned out in the governorship election conducted across the country on Saturday March 18, the former Nigerian Minister of Education and convener, Bring Back Our Girls, Oby Ezekwesili has asked a critical question from Nigerians and politicians.

The right activist appears to be ruminating on the spate of violence that marred the election in various parts of the country where governorship election was conducted by INEC.

So far, about 21 people have been reportedly killed while over 70 people are said to be critically injured and are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.

The violence was meted by political thugs who were contracted by politicians with intent to disrupt election where it is obvious they cannot win.

The development was more pronounced in Lagos and Rivers where voters were threatened and asked to stay at home if they were not ready to vote a particular party’s candidate.

However, election in some states was devoid of violence and thuggery. Those states have now become reference points for civil society and international observers.

Referencing states with little or no violence, Obi Ezekwesili decided to pick Oyo State as an example for others to follow.

Writing on her verified twitter handle on Tuesday, the former Minister of Education said: “Was it not in the same election Oyo People peacefully elected their Governor?”

Governor Seyi Makinde won his re-election in the state and has since been congratulated by his opponent, Teslim Folarin of the All Progressive Congress.
