Soyinka Reveals One Thing He Wants From Tinubu After Taking Over In May 29

Nobel Laureate, professor Wole Soyinka has set an agenda for the incoming administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The literary icon who appeared on Arise TV Morning Show on Wednesday spoke extensively on the outcome of the presidential election and what went wrong with the poll.

Speaking about manifestos of each of the leading presidential candidates, Wole Soyinka said there is no much difference in their programme for the country. What remains is the ability and political will to execute their plans when they get into power.

Asked specifically what he expects from the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on restructuring, Soyinka said he expected detailed restructuring and decentralisation of the country with more extensive devolution of power to the various tiers of government.

According to him, when the supreme court gave a judgement about the validity of old naira notes and president Muhammadu Buhari refused to obey the court ruling, some state governors especially in the Southwest ordered their residents to continue spending the old notes while adding that whoever rejects it will be prosecuted accordingly.

Soyinka described that move as an act of true federalism.

He implored the President-elect, Bola Tinubu to imbibe the spirit of true federalism and embark on detailed restructuring when he assumes office in May. He noted that it is the only way to move the country forward.

He said: “All I want from the incoming president is decentralisation. A detailed decentralisation with more devolution of powers to the various tiers of government”
