ASUU Strike: If My Kids Don’t Go To School For 2 Days In US, Police Will Knock On My Door The Next Day- Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore has expressed his concern on the ongoing inactivity in the Nigeria’s university education that has kept the students at home for more than 200 days.

Sowore, who joined the National body of the students, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS while protesting on Airport road in Lagos on Monday came on air on Tuesday afternoon to reiterate the consequence this prolonged ASUU strike will have on the Nation’s economy.

According to the publisher of Sahara Reporters, education is a key factor that drives the economy of any country. Any country that wants to maximize its potential and boost its economy must invest heavily in the education Sector.

He compared Nigeria with other developed countries of the world and revealed that Nigeria is seriously lagging behind in the area of education and there is need to do something about it.

Sowore explained that he spent over 20 years in the United States of America where his family is based. He disclosed that if his kids do not go to school for two days, the next day, police will come and knock on his door.

They will come to find out why his children have not been in school for two days. They will investigate if he is abusing the children or something. They will carry out a psychological test on them to ensure they are saved and secured under their parents.

Sowore said things like that do not work in Nigeria and that is why it is easy for under age children to be hawking on the streets or inside the traffic during the school hours and nobody will ask question or bother to find out what is wrong from their parents.

The AAC presidential candidate said until the government changed its perception about education sector in Nigeria, things may continue to remain the same way they are presently.

For Sowore, Nigeria has the potential to be great as a nation. He noted that if our doctors, engineers and other professionals who travelled to other countries are doing well and setting sterling track records in those countries, then there is nothing wrong with Nigeria and its people. We only need a committed leader who will translate our potential into prosperity.
