Gov. Wike Expresses Gratitude To Nigerians For Supporting Power Shift To The  South

As far as Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike is concerned, the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress as president-elect is an answer to the agitation for southern presidency the region has been clamouring for.

Wike confirmed this statement in Ibadan Oyo State on Friday.

The controversial governor from the platform of the People’s Democratic Party joined his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde to commission the Oyo State 5,000,000-litre Aviation Fuel Dispensing Depot at the Ibadan Airport in the Alakia area of the state.

According to him, Power shift to the south is settled. He said governor Seyi Makinde is one of the governors who backed the idea of power shift to the South.

Wike said, “I am happy he (Makinde) is one of those that made history by making sure that power shift to the south.

“I have told people that those who fight for change, who fight for revolution may not be direct beneficiaries of that fight but today, history has it that all of us now are aware that when power finishes from the south, it will go to the north; when it finishes from the north, it will come to the south.

“So, it does not need to be written in the constitution at all before it is implemented. And I thank Nigerians for standing firm to see that this issue materialises.”

Governor Wike has been vocal in his agitation for power to return to the southern part of the country after the tenure of president Muhammadu Buhari from the North who will be completing his eight years tenure by May 29.

The Rivers state governor, after losing to former vice president Atiku Abubakar in the PDP presidential primary last year, has remained unequivocal in his protest to ensure the party chairman, Iyorchia Ayu resigns in order for another national chairman to emerge from the South.

This was the condition he gave the party if he must support its presidential candidate in the just concluded presidential election.

Many Nigerians are of the view that the failure of Governor Wike and his counterparts who were codenamed G-5, was largely responsible for the loss of PDP at the presidential poll.

His recent decision to thank Nigerians for supporting power shift to the South has however triggered reactions on social media.
