Breaking: Senate confirms Justice Abdullahi as Chief Judge of FCT High Court
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the nomination of Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi as the Chief Judge for the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The comfirmation was announced on Wednesday at Plennaey after the Red Chamber received and considered the report of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Right and Legal Matters on the Confirmation of the Nomination of Hon. Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi.
The motion was moved by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and seconded by Senator James Manager
How Justice Abdullahi was Confirmed:
Senator Opeyemi Bamidele lays and presents the report with the following observations made by the Committee:
i. The appointment of the nominee certifies the requirement of the Nigeria Constitution, 1999 as altered and Senate Standing Order as amended;
ii. Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi has a quite a range of experience and possesses the requisite leadership qualities to uphold the dignity of the High Court of the FCT;
iii. There is no petition against the nomination of the nominee for appointment;
iv. There are no adverse reports against the nominee; and
v. The nominee is in fit and in proper cause for appointment as Chief Judge for the High Court of the FCT.
After the presentation of the report, the Committee recommended that the Senate do confirm the nomination of Hon. Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi for appointment as Chief Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as moved by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.
Consequently, the Senate dissolves into Committee of the Whole to consider the report after which it reverts to plenary to report progress.
The Nomination of Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi is then CONFIRMED as the Chief judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
