COVID-19: Kwara Marathon Gets New Date
Due to the rising number of coronavirus cases across Nigeria, the much-anticipated maiden edition of the Kwara marathon in Ilorin, Kwara State has been pushed forward.
The race which was earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, 23rd of January 2021 has now been moved to Saturday, 6th March 2021.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Mr Mubarak Salau Bello, and Secretary Mr. Olasunkanmi Habeeb, the postponement was due to the upsurge in the Covid-19 cases as witnessed in the past few days.
The statement added that the shifting in date was also to monitor and further curtail the spread of the dreaded virus in the state, noting that the new date will give the LOC, potential sponsors, stakeholders and officials enough time to adequately plan, and for athletes to prepare and train hard for the race.
