Dr. Doyin Okupe, Former Director General of the Presidential Campaign Council of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 presidential election has identified seven major problems associated with Nigerian Democracy.

Okupe, who was also the former Senior Special Assistant a former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, resigned his position as Labour Party Campaign DG following his alleged money laundering charges which subjected him to EFCC questioning during the electioneering process.

Since he stepped down from the position, Nigerians heard little from him with regards to electoral activities until recently when he returned to social media to ventilate his concern about the recent polls.

Okupe, who wrote on his Twitter handle lamented the spate of election malpractises in the recently concluded general elections across the country.

He basically highlighted seven problems associated with the Nigerian democracy and offered suggestions on how to nip the problems in the bud.

According to Doyin Okupe, here is the list of problems confronting the country’s democracy:

Pervasive Corruption, Illiteracy, Crippling Poverty, Massive Youth Unemployment,  Lack of respect for Rule of Law, Malleability of the Judiciary and The absence of the fear of God.

He also suggested the only way to solve the problems is through prayers and determination.

He said no amount of change mantra or activism from the youths can change the statusquo.

He wrote: “No amount of ‘change mantras’ in our politics, or activism of the Youth will change the status quo.

“We must find a way to deal with the above 7 demons and collectively pray and ask God to change our hearts towards righteousness & godliness,” he wrote.
