Police Officer Who Assaulted Civilian In Viral Video Demoted, Deranked From Inspector To Sergeant

The police inspector, Adejoh Siaka who assaulted a man in a viral video has been demoted from his rank to sergeant.

The embattled officer made the news headlines a week ago when he was seen in a video assaulting a gentleman on the highway in Rivers State.

According to the video which triggered reactions on social media, the officer attempted to flog the man with a long stick he was holding but the man in protest grabbed the stick and seized it from the officer.

In return, the officer landed him some slaps. The incident happened in the presence of the Man’s wife who was in their car trying to prevent other police officers from entering the car.

The development, which happened on Sunday April 9, sparked anger among Nigerians as the leadership of the Police was called to arrest, investigate and prosecute the officers accordingly.

On Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed that the officer, Adejoh Siaka has been sanctioned. He specifically revealed that he was demoted from post of inspector to sergeant.

The PPRO who described the officer’s action as discreditable conduct and incivility to members of the public also confirmed that other officers present at the scene were similarly purnished.
