Police kill three suspected kidnappers in Niger State

Officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) in Niger State shot and killed three suspected kidnappers at Fapo village in Lapai Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), the gallant officers also recovered firearms belonging to the kidnappers in the operation.

Abiodun said the incident happened on March 14 at about 1500 hours, when the Command received intelligence tip-off that gunmen had kidnapped three persons at different locations and took them to an unknown destination.

He said that on receiving the information the Force mobilised officers and men attached to the Lapai Division and local vigilantes and went in pursuit of the hoodlums to a place near Fapo village via Lapai local government area where they were engaged in a fierce gun battle.

He said three suspected kidnappers were killed, two AK 47 rifles and one locally fabricated AK 47 rifle were recovered during the operation.

The police spokesman said other members of the syndicate escaped with gunshot wounds, and that the three victims were rescued unhurt.

He said that the command would continue the onslaught against the hoodlums and urged residents to report anyone seen with bullet wounds or suspicious behaviour to the nearest Police division. (NAN)
