Sports: MK&MICHU boys Offa defeat TAOFOLAND Ibadan in Honourable’s cup final

MK&MICHU boys Offa defeated their football counterpart TAOFOLAND from Ibadan in the Honourable’s Cup final held 5th December 2020 at Olofa stadium in Offa, Headquarter of Offa Local Government Area, Kwara State.

The game that ended in penalty shoot out saw MK&MICHU boys emerging the winners of the tournament scoring 5:4 at the end of the penalty kick to go home with a cash prize of N150, 000 while Toafoland FA got N100, 000 for coming second. Antlers FC got N75, 000 for beating Olaiya Boys 1-0 in the third place match. 

The tournament, organized by Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Offa chapter, and sponsored by Honourable Abdulwaheed Gbenga Yusuf (JK), Hon. representing Eesa, Shawo, Igboodun wards, Offa local government is first of its kind as it is the maiden edition.

Speaking to Newsmen at the event, Hon. Gbenga said the tournament is expected to stay beyond his tenure in office as it is a laudable legacy that is expected to survive. He said, ” Honourable’s cup has come to stay as it a legacy that all sports lovers and veterans are expected to support.” 
Gbenga pledged to sustain and to institute it as  legacy and template for discovering young talented players in Offa and it’s environs.

Showing appreciation, YSFON, Offa Branch listed among the Honourable’s numerous contributions to sports which include assisting local players to join premier league while sponsoring female teams to participate in competitions across the state.
In a statement signed by its Secretary , Hajj Alhassan Garba, the federation thanked Honourable JK for organising and sponsoring the tournament.

32 teams from Kwara, Osun and Oyo states participated in the talent hunt competition. Present at the event were the House Leader, Hon. Magaji Abubakar Olawoyin, Hon. Musa Atoyebi,  the Chief Whip, Hon Yussuf Ali Deputy Whip, the Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Hon. Awolola Ayokunle, Hon. Ojo Olayiwola Oyebode, the HOD, Administration, Offa Local Government Area,Hon AGF Salahudeen,Hon. Jare Olatundun,  Hon. Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi,  Commissioner for Energy, the Group Managing Director/CEO of Harmony Holdings, Alhaji Abdullahi Abdulmajeed, State Chairman of YSFON, Mallam Ademola Kiyesola.
